The future of salty snack industry

Originally created as ‘breaks between meals’, snacks have been considered just as such for a long time.
Today the frenetic daily routine has converted the snack into a genuine meal replacement.
In the US, this pattern has now become a real trend, but it is progressively embracing Europe, too (Poland, Germany, France, Spain and also Italy).

Behind a snack selection there are different reasons. The consumer, in front of a fairly small serving, has a huge impulse to compensate the hunger.
Thus the taste undoubtedly plays the major role: it must provide well balanced notes, which might be satisfying, savoury and innovative at the same time.

However, other reasons drive the consumer’s choice. For instance, the ingredients list is required to be short, easily understandable and possibly based on natural raw materials.
The focus on positive claims such as “rich in…” and “low in …” are constantly rising, while the caloric content gains less importance.

Normally those people who follow a high fiber diet don’t pay much attention to fats or sugars content.

Other important factors, last but not least, are the price, the texture (“crunchy” is much appreciated) and the package (practical and able to maintain the snack aroma).

Our Spanish partner LUCTA is leader in “savoury” flavours, and offers tailor-made solutions, such as:

• Bakery flavours (bread, pizza, roasted notes,…)
• Cheese flavours (mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, ricotta, emmenthal, cheddar, …)
• Meat flavours (bacon, chicken, hamburger, mortadella,…)
• Fish flavours (shrimps,…)
• Vegetable flavours (asparagus, spinach,…)
• Aromatic herbs notes (onion, basil, oregano,…)
And…the list goes further!
