Supplement and fortified foods: the new trends

Today’s food market points out the most relevant categories of consumers: vegans, vegetarians and “flexitarians” (namely those who consume animal proteins occasionally).

The results of a recent survey by Mintel in UK, show a raising awareness about health and eating disorders (allergies, intolerance, deficit, etc.…).
In order to enrich or complete the nutritional profile or to balance possible food deficiency, the consumption of fortified foods and supplements has increased.

Vitamin D (which consumption has grown by 7% this year) is the most demanded; Vitamin C, B group, Vitamin A and E follow behind.

The most involved population segment is the 35-54 year-age group, especially women.

Apart from vitamins, minerals demand is also growing: for instance, the iron is a good supplement counterbalancing diets having low content of animal proteins.
The same case is for calcium, mainly needed by vegans or anyhow by those who avoid lactose.

Among the companies we represent, Divi’s (CH) and Lipofoods (ES), offer a wide Vitamin and Minerals range.
